| Breathing, Posture and Sound Production There are so many strange teachings about this topic. This clinic is designed to crack all myths surrounding breathing, posture and sound production on a brass instrument. How many of your students have ever been told, "Breathe from your diaphragm?" or "Squeeze your lips tightly together and blow?". How many of your students know where the ribs are located or what the diaphragm actually does? How many of your students put an instrument in their hand and suddenly forget how to take a relaxed breathe that is free from tension? This clinic is designed to be fun, interactive and extremely educational. Using straws and pinwheels (which I bring) and various breathing and posture exercises, your students will be sitting up taller, breathing and releasing the air in a relaxed manner, and playing with more "freedom". This clinic takes anywhere from 45 mins. - 2 hours, and can be adapted and expanded in a number of ways. Breathing, Posture, Sound Production and Brass Techniques A more expanded version of the clinic above, this clinic will also include instruction and exercises about improving your double, triple, and flutter tonguing, the importance of transposition, playing by ear, and other techniques for achieving your optimal performance. Brass Coaching I will spend time on posture and breathing at the beginning of each session, but this clinic is designed specifically to help with the intonation, sound quality, technical difficulties with the music, and playing together as an ensemble. |
Total Package; Soloing with your Band It's always fun to work with group of students for a day or two, develop a report with them, experience their excitement about music, and then perform a solo on the actual band concert! After two days or clinics in Akron, OH, I performed the "Trumpeter's Lullaby" with the middle school band and "The Flight of the Bumblebee" and "Bugler's Holiday" with the high school band (and two other high school trumpeters). It was a thrill for the kids and a great time for me as well. Contact me directly for schedule availability and fees. ![]() |
