Ashley Hall made her solo recital debut at Chautauqua Festival-in-the Park when she was 12. Since then, the 25-year-old Wytheville native has enjoyed an international career as a trumpet soloist and is anxiously awaiting the release of her first CD.

“It’s been like a dream of mine,” Hall said this week. “It’s something that’s been in my heart so long.”
Hall’s CD will be released in October. Titled “Behold Him,” it is a collection of hymns of the church and features the multi-faceted styles and timbres of the trumpet.

“I grew up in a Christian home,” said the daughter of Mike and Judy Hall of Wytheville. “My music is a gift from the Lord and I want to use it for Him.”

Grammy award-winning producer and arranger J.D. Miller collaborated with Hall on the CD’s unique arrangements. Dwight Good also served as a producer for the CD recorded at a studio in Kentucky.
The studio sessions. Hall noted, lasted from March until August. They included Hall’s renditions with accompanist tracts added later, she said.

Clips from the CD may be heard through Hall’s Web site at www.ashleyhalltrumpet.corn. The CD, selling for $15 plus shipping and handling, may be pre-ordered at the same address.

“I wanted my first CD to be a true representation of who I am,” Hall said. “God has given me the ability to play the trumpet well, but it doesn’t define my worth and my identity. This CD represents my desire to worship and position my life in submission to Jesus Christ.”

Hall has dazzled audiences from Boston’s Symphony Hall to Washington, DC.’s, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to St. John’s College Cathedral in Cambridge, England. She is taking her talent to China next month for nine concerts with the Americana Music Group.

This weekend Hall will perform Andre Jolivet’s Concertino for Trumpet, String Orchestra and Piano with the Chamber Orchestra of Southwest Virginia. Performances at the Squires Recital Salon and Virginia Tech will be Saturday, Sept. 8 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 9 at 3
Hall also will minister with her trumpet at Pioneer Baptist Church in Max Meadows on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 11 a.m.

A 1999 graduate of George Wythe High School, she attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Hall earned her Artist’s Diploma from the Longy School of Music in Boston.
