"Ashley's clinics were well-conceived and pre-planned according to the needs of our band students. Young musicians grades 6-12 were actively engaged in the clinic activities at all times. Her enthusiasm and love for music captured the attention of the students, leaving them talking of her visit for weeks to come. She brought her own supplies (straws and pinwheels) to allow the students opportunities to learn proper breathing and blowing techniques in a hands-on fashion. In addition to her clinics, we were fortunate enough to have Ashley give a solo concert in our district that evening, including a few solo works with our middle school and high school bands. The community greatly enjoyed her performance, and the students were thrilled to be performing with such an outstanding professional musician.  Not every great performer is a great teacher. I was performing at a very high level for many years without knowing "how" I was doing it. It wasn't until I experienced some difficulties playing that I was forced to re-examine the methods of proper sound production and embouchure development. I spent two years at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA studying with trumpet teacher, Steven Emery, and Feldenkrais instructor, Olivia Cheever. What a gift to have these two years to learn and absorb such great knowledge about the techniques of trumpet playing, embouchure development, breath control, and lip dexterity.
I have always enjoyed working with students. I have a commitment to the education of younger music students and believe that my clinics encourage, challenge, inspire, motivate, and educate. While I try to shape my clinics specifically for the group that I am teaching and work alongside the desires of the band directors or private instructors, I do have a list of possible services which describe the clinics in more detail.
